  Abstract:
  We investigate the Traveling Umpire Problem (TUP). The TUP is the academic version of the real-world major league baseball umpire scheduling problem. It defines the way in which umpires should be assigned to the games in a fixed Traveling Tournament Problem schedule. The TUP turns out to be very challenging to solve, even for small problem sizes. The current study results in a decrease in optimality gap by improving lower bounds as well as upper bounds for many benchmark instances.
