The Data Analytics Lab at the VUB is currently looking for two postdoctoral researchers to work on algorithmic decision-making. Specifically, the researcher will apply and develop machine learning and AI tools to develop a novel fair, ethical, and transparent pricing toolbox supported by a large industry partner.
The Data Analytics Lab is part of the cross-faculty Artificial Intelligence Lab at VUB. The Data Lab has been active in various research and development projects in collaboration with industry across different domains (causal machine learning, multi-task learning, demand forecasting, fraud detection), which involve developing data-driven solutions for optimizing decision-making. The lab has strong ties with research groups in Belgium and worldwide (e.g., KU Leuven, Harvard University, MIT, Humboldt University, Melbourne University). In collaboration with the AI Lab, the Data Lab is a founding member of the VUB AI Experience Centre (founded 2019) and the VUB-ULB AI for the Common Good Initiative FARI (founded 2020).
Research tasks
- Development and application of AI algorithms for algorithmic decision support
- Publication of high-quality peer-reviewed manuscripts
Educational tasks
- Minor teaching (assistance) duties, as well as administrative and technical support, as appropriate

Offer
A fully funded position for a period of 18 months. Depending on your experience and your academic merits, you will receive a salary in one of the scales established by the government. Hospitalization insurance and free use of public transport for commuting are standard conditions of employment. If you prefer to cycle to work, you will also be compensated for this. Both campuses have extensive sports facilities at your disposal, and a nursery is within walking distance.
