HEC® Liège (University of Liège) invites applications for a full-time academic position in Digital Business starting on October 1, 2018.

Job description:

Prerequisites for qualification are a Ph.D. (management science, information systems, computer science, statistics, mathematics, applied sciences, industrial engineering, operations research,…) with a focus on “Digital business”. The candidate should demonstrate an excellent research potential and a keen interest in management applications, with significant international exposure.

The candidate will be responsible for a teaching load at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including introductory courses in management information systems. The successful candidate will be assigned specialized courses based on his/her profile and experience.

The official administrative language used at HEC Liège is French and the candidate will need to teach courses in English and in French. The candidate should have excellent knowledge of English. If the candidate does not have the required level of French, he/she will be given the opportunity to take French language training courses provided by ULiège to enable the candidate to teach courses in French, to take part in administrative meetings, and to take up internal service duties.

The candidate will become a member of the research center QuantOM and is expected to contribute to the development of the research center activities in “Supply chain management and business analytics”, one of the strategic research fields of HEC Liège (http://www.hec.ulg.ac.be/en/faculty-research/fields-research-centers/supply-chain-management-business-analytics). The School is especially interested in candidates with a strong background and a scientific interest in management information systems and novel digital technologies (blockchain, augmented and virtual reality, SaaS, IoT, …) and their adoption and impact on the evolution of business models, in particular in supply chain management. Areas of interest include business process modeling and enterprise architecture, ERP systems, logistics information systems, business analytics, knowledge management, ...

Tenure track candidates start with limited teaching duties allowing them to allocate 40% of their working time to research activities. A positive evaluation at the end of the probation period is subject to the candidate’s demonstrated performance in teaching and research. In particular, the candidate is expected to

- deliver high quality teaching;

- develop new and active teaching methods;

- supervise Master theses;

- contribute to the continuing evolution of the School’s teaching programs;

- publish scientific articles in relevant and top-tier refereed journals, as well as books and book chapters;

- develop new research projects and write grant proposals for attracting internal and external research funding;

- supervise doctoral research;

- be involved in international research networks;

- actively take part in the organization of research activities of the corresponding strategic field at HEC Liège, such as research seminars, workshops, and scientific conferences;

- participate in research projects and missions for the account of, and grow partnerships with, private organizations and/or public authorities.

Terms of appointment:

Academic posts are allocated for an initial fixed term of four years which, following evaluations after three years, may lead to a permanent appointment.

At the end of the third year, an evaluation of the subject area and an evaluation of the person concerned are carried out simultaneously by different bodies, with following possible outcomes:

(A) If the evaluation of the subject area is negative, whatever the result of the assessment of the person concerned, the latter can complete his or her term of 4 years without the possibility of an extension.

(B) If the evaluations of the subject area and the person concerned are positive, the latter will be appointed permanently.
